The need for a clearing/cleaning rod often goes underappreciated on AR15s or modern fighting rifles. However, this is not an excuse for an essential piece of infantry equipment to be unaccommodated. Through extensive testing at Black Hills Designs we have discovered a consistent trend of some ammunition+barrel combos sticking cases when fouled or rims being ripped off. The safest way to clear these malfunctions is to use a full length monolithic cleaning rod. No more trying to snap off the end of your knife in the chamber. No more destroying your collapsible rod on a stuck case.
The Black Hills Designs RESCUE ROD allows you to mount a full length 7.62 AK or similar (~1/8″/4.5mm) cleaning rod on your AR15 or similar modern fighting rifle. The RESCUE ROD attaches directly to your upper receiver and snugly retains the cleaning rod until it is needed to clear a catastrophic malfunction. The RESCUE ROD can be installed or removed easily by the user without the use of tools.

Protip from Black Hills Designs: A 7.62 AK cleaning rod will easily fit in a 5.56mm, 7.62mm and 6.5mm guns. These are available surplus for $8-$15 and can easily be found online, at gunshows or on that AK collecting dust in your closet.
Protip from Black Hills Designs: While the RESCUE ROD is compatible with segmented rods, they are not recommended due to their propensity to break under heavy use.
